Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

The University of Richmond has many different types of air-conditioning systems that serve the climate control needs of the campus. They range from residential heat pumps at the University Forest Apartments to large and sophisticated commercial systems.

University Facilities incorporates some innovative energy conservation systems such as ice-storage systems that operate at night to take advantage of the lower cost, off-peak utility power. All new equipment utilizes non-CFC refrigerants and low-energy-consumption compressors. Preventive maintenance includes regular air filter changes, lubrication and adjustments, and safety device calibrations by certified technicians.

Plumbing

Plumbers maintain the campus water distribution system and sanitary sewers. Water fountains, showers, sinks, and toilets are the part that most people see; however, most of the infrastructure for these systems is below ground or in building walls. The department also works closely with Safety Services to inspect and maintain fire systems and hydrants on campus to ensure proper operation.

Water is provided by the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities and Henrico County Department of Public Utilities.
