Campus Drive Summer 2023 Closure

This summer, beginning May 22nd, the intersection at Campus Drive and College Road will be closed while the cobblestone rumble strips are replaced in this area. Access to the Richmond College Tennis Court Trailers and parking lot C73 will still be available. This project is weather dependent. University Facilities will inform the campus community of any necessary updates and when the intersection reopens via SpiderBytes.

Campus Electrical Distribution Project

The work to upgrade the electrical distribution on campus is necessary to convert the University’s antiquated 4,160-volt electrical grid into a 35,000-volt bi-directional grid, ensuring a reliable system and redundancy capabilities to minimize the impact of power outages on campus. This first phase of the multiyear project began in winter 2018 in coordination with Dominion Energy. Over winter break 2019, Dominion Energy completed their work at the substation located between the Steam Plant and the Wilton Center.  Phase 1 concluded early Winter 2021 with the installation of raceway and cable from the Dominion Energy Substation to the Queally Athletic / Well Being Center. Currently underway (Spring of 2021), Phase 2 completion will close the bi-directional loop on the Richmond College side of campus and provide electrical service to 14 University buildings.  Electrical shutdowns are tentatively planned to occur during time frames least impactful to campus including nights, weekends, and breaks. These planned outages will be communicated by University Facilities.
